February is Black History Month!

Posted by Tony Grima on 2/01/2021

Join National Braille Press as we celebrate Black history and creativity with print/braille books that were created by Black authors and artists, and/or feature Black characters.

We know you’ll enjoy all of these books. We encourage you to add them to your collection, to help teach and celebrate Black cultural contributions every day of the year - not just in February!

Martin & Anne: The Kindred Spirits of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and Anne Frank, by Nancy Churnin and Yevgenia Nayberg

The Day You Begin by Jacqueline Woodson and Rafael Lopez

How to Read a Book
By Kwame Alexander and Melissa Sweet

Sit-In: How Four Friends Stood Up by Sitting Down, by Andrea Davis Pinkney and Brian Pinkney

Amazing Grace, by Mary Hoffman and Caroline Binch

The Snowy Day, by Ezra Jack Keats

Since the founding of  "Negro History Month" in 1926 by Carter G. Woodson (renamed Black History Month in 1976), the month of February offers a special opportunity each year to celebrate the contributions of African Americans in all walks of life.  Now is a great time to learn more about the life and work of Carter G. Woodson.
